Kid-Friendly Winter Activities

Steamboat has always been an awesome family and kid-friendly town. Now obviously if you are coming for a ski vacation, the kids will either be in ski school or hanging out at the Kids Vacation Center while you enjoy that champagne powder. But what about a few kid-friendly winter activities that they can enjoy? Here are a few ideas for you to start planning.

Book a place with a pool

The easiest and most convenient kid-friendly winter activity is playing in the pool. So, while you are looking at lodging, explore the options that offer a pool. It’s a great way for the kids to spend the afternoon post-skiing. Check out our properties that fit the bill!

The other pool-related option is to visit the Old Town Hot Springs. They have an awesome waterslide, floating obstacle course, aquatic climbing wall, and more. Plus, the adults can benefit too—bring your swim suit and relax in one of the many natural, mineral spring-fed hot tubs. After a full day on the slopes, your body will love the warm water.

Explore the Stores Downtown

Take the kids for a walk through downtown Steamboat. There are a few awesome stores that they will really enjoy. The first is In Celebration of Kids—the ultimate kids store complete with an ice cream parlor and cafe, arcade games, clothing, and toys galore! A few doors down you have Fuzziwig’s Candy Factor where kids can choose from hundreds of different candies from the classics like candy cigarettes to the new school crazy sour creations. Venture across the street to another store that’s a fun visit for kids of all ages. F.M. Light & Sons has been outfitting the west for well over 100 years. This truly is an iconic Steamboat store with something for everyone—a definite must-visit.

Tubing at Saddleback Ranch

Snow tubing is one of the best kid-friendly winter activities! Take a drive out to Saddleback Ranch where the whole family can enjoy the tube ride on the Yee-Haw Hill. No car? No problem! Saddleback does offer free shuttles to tubers who tube for 1.5 hours. Shuttles pick up and drop off at the Transit Center at the base of the ski area—convenient location for those staying at one of our gorgeous properties nearby!

The Outlaw

The newest addition to Steamboat’s kid-friendly winter activity list is The Outlaw Mountain Coaster! Newly open as of September 2017, the Outlaw has proven incredibly popular amongst the kiddos. This is the longest coaster in North America with more than 6,280 linear feet to travel. It descends more than 400 vertical feet, rises 40 feet above the ground, and offers twists, turns, dips, and 360-degree circles everyone will enjoy!
