What’s the best part of your summer mountain vacation? We think it’s that you have nature as your playground!

Here in Steamboat, we’re nestled in the Yampa Valley.  Which makes it the perfect place to plan your summer hiking trip!  We have so many options to choose from.

Don’t worry, there are trails for people of all ability levels, hikes that require a short but scenic drive, and those that quite literally start in town.  Whatever you’re looking for, we’re sure you can find it here.

Our Top Picks:

Rabbit Ears Peak – 6 miles round trip

Remember that pass you drove over to get to Steamboat?  The Rabbit Ears Peak hike trail is at the top!  It’s a wildflower filled hike with views of the Rabbit Ears rock most of the way up.  You’ll get up to 10,600 ft at the peak, and the trail is mostly open – so wear sunscreen!  This moderate to difficult hike starts off at beautiful Dumont Lake and finishes at the rock formation.

Upper Fish Creek Falls – 5 miles round trip

Almost right outside of town is Fish Creek Falls – a beautiful, rock climbed, water fall that’s minutes from the appointed parking lot.  The upper falls can be reached by continuing on this trail for several more miles up rocky hills and somewhat of a steep climb.  But once you reach the upper falls at 9,000 ft, we think it’s all worth it!
